Observations are like a dictionary of possibility to the pattern designer be it the line of a path across a field, or a piece of cutlery. There are visual coincidences that lead me to new work, suggesting form, a colour combination or a quality of mark. Small detail and vast landscapes, brand new and British heritage, graphics on a board game, to a row of cabbages belong as language to explore. Historical pattern structures provide an underpinning of knowledge and influence.
With a research practice exploring visual communication as pattern there is a spirit of British heritage, nature and the everyday in relation to telling a story of geography, mapping and the specifics of place identity in my work.
