Kate Farley

Combining pattern design and visual communication, drawing and printmaking, hand rendering and digital manipulation, I design across art and design contexts with ease. I seek to create artwork that presents original, intelligent solutions underpinned by quality and integrity that will stand the test of time.

With twenty five years of design experience I have undertaken commissions in education, healthcare and public art environments, as well as in galleries, commercial and private venues, in collaboration with manufacturers specialising in print for interior and exterior surface products. I create commercially aware collections of designs in repeat for contract / interior / home, stationery, ceramics and fashion markets developing bespoke graphic pattern for a wide range of clients.

The challenge I particularly enjoy is to create artwork to communicate brand identity for organisations where the artwork communicates unique narrative and heritage within the pattern through drawing, printmaking, photography and digital design processes. Each project concept is developed with the client in order to understand the creative brief as well as planning requirements, timescales and budgets. I carry out consultation and artwork preparation, as well as production monitoring with manufacturers and suppliers, installation planning, and press & marketing as required. "Kate Farley has a unique talent for not only capturing the forms and essence of a subject but also in using it to create visually exciting patterns. We were pleased the opportunity arose to work with her again and create a second pattern for our company. After the success of Kate's 'Chelsea' pattern, which was based on my first solo cutlery design, it seemed only fitting Kate should use 'Pride', my father's first cutlery design and also his most admired. We are thrilled with the result – a celebration of a British design classic."

"Transport for London selected Kate Farley to produce four posters on a Parks and Gardens theme for posting on London's Underground network in 2017. Kate was chosen because of her outstanding abilities as a graphic and paper cut-out artist. Her work impresses at every level and her attention to the brief detail, her use of colour and readiness to engage with a client with multiple stakeholders made working with Kate a very rewarding experience. The posters were brilliant and much admired by the public. If the opportunity arose again, I would certainly commission Kate again."
